Preserving
the archives

A Montreal historical site

The aim is to create a movement with the Fabrique de la paroisse Notre-Dame de Montréal's archives to let people to discover life in Montréal around the historic site through the years. Founded in 1657, Notre-Dame was the first parish in Montréal. Its archives contain documents signed by Ville-Marie's co-founders: Jeanne-Mance and Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve.

The parish

She was considered the godmother and he the godfather of the first children born in the Montréal colony. Notre-Dame's archives are unique, describing the daily lives of the people living in and participating in the parish. Their actions extend throughout the entire city.

A heritage

An invisible, but crucial aspect of the project is to ensure that the archives are properly preserved. That's the nuts-and-bolts stuff! It will be important to shift the paradigm and make preservation a visible aspect of the heritage we want to share.
